India’s biggest ride-hailing company has ambitious plans to put a million electric vehicles on the country’s polluted streets.
Ola, Uber’s main rival in India, said Monday that as a first step it’s aiming to roll out a fleet of 10,000 electric rickshaws in several cities over the next 12 months. India’s ubiquitous three-wheeled taxis are normally fueled by gas. Ola wants its drivers to switch to battery-powered versions.
The company said it plans to hit the 1 million vehicle target by 2021.

A little over a year old, Aurora is already a heavy-weight in the industry. Urmson was the head of Google’s self-driving project before it became a spin-off called Waymo. Anderson was the director of the semi-autonomous autopilot program at Tesla and Drew Bagnell, one of the most respected experts on machine learning in the US, headed the autonomy and perception team at Uber’s Advanced Technologies Center.
While Aurora is an ideal partner in the automated driving world, industry insiders expected Volkswagen to keep AD development inhouse. Audi, the Bavaria-based car manufacturer and part of the Volkswagen group, spun off its subsidiary Autonomous Intelligent Driving (AID) in early 2017 to ready a level 5 car for series production. “Autonomous Intelligent Driving is working for the entire Volkswagen group,” Audi boss Rupert Stadler said at the time. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg, where the Volkswagen group is headquartered, was already working on an alternative. “We have been discussing a cooperation with Aurora since 2016. Talking became doing in mid-2017,” said group Chief Digital Officer Johann Jungwirth earlier this year

The city of Gdynia in Poland has ordered 30 battery-equipped trolleybuses from the Polish firm Solaris Bus & Coach, at a total cost of around $28 million. In addition to traditional trolleybus drivelines, which draw power from overhead wires, the new Solaris buses will be fitted with batteries that enable driving off the traction line.
Fourteen of the new vehicles are Solaris Trollino 12 trolleybuses, which will feature 58 kWh battery packs; 16 are articulated Trollino 18 models, which will be equipped with 87 kWh packs. Both types will be able to cover dozens of kilometers in zero-emission mode without the use of a pantograph. The new trolleybuses are to be deployed by spring 2019.

It seem likely Buick will sell this vehicle in China at some point in the near future. However, it’s not clear if it’ll ever be U.S.-bound.

Electric police vehicles are something that we see from time to time, but an electric fire truck is a rare sight.
Kreisel Electric Fire Truck
This particular one was built by Kreisel Electric in Austria and is a fully functional vehicle in Linz.
According to Kreisel Electric, these types of vehicles are another perfect fit for electric conversions because typically a fire truck covers only short distances and charging can be done in between calls.
Hitting 200,000 will trigger the phaseout period of the $7,500 federal tax credit.
Currently, all of the plug-ins vehicles sold in the U.S. are eligible for full federal tax credit of up to $7,500 (depending on battery capacity – see actual credit amount for each vehicle here).
But when a particular manufacturer sells 200,000 units, the full amount will be available through the end of that quarter and for the following quarter. Then, all new plug-ins from that manufacturer will be eligible for just 50% of the per-vehicle credit amount – for only two more quarters. After that, the credit diminishes even more until it’s eventually gone for that particular manufacturer.
